Bournemouth Vintage Emporium
Complete re-design of interior space for tea rooms and cafe at the Bournemouth Vintage Emporium in Bournemouth.
The Brief
To completely re-design the cafe and tea rooms space in the Bournemouth Vintage Emporium from feeling old, dark and dingy to feeling upbeat, fresh and modernised with a nod to Mid Century design. This included updating the room layout, designing all the visual elements, curating the furniture and commissioning artist Rick Walker from Paintshop Studio for a custom full scale mural.

The Approach
This visual story has vivid green walls and ceiling, a strong monochrome striped floor and modern tables with vintage vinyl tan armchairs. Velvet armchairs added soft textures. I painted artwork with abstract black and white paintings using existing vintage frames. Diffused globe floor lights were used to add a gentle light to the space. I used my sign writing skills to make blackboard menus from vintage signs and frames. The large windows give lots of natural light, so I placed large plants to make the space feel cosy and home like. I wanted it to feel like your own lounge, but with good coffee and cake. A space to chill, chat and relax in.
The second phase of this design was to add in a large mural and typography by local artist Rick Walker from Paintshop Studios. I worked with Rick to add in his signature style into the space, adding colour and flavour. A modern day mid century mix.
